New to Vietnamese food? One must-try dish for newbies is a piping hot bowl of Vietnamese noodles – Pho Bo, with Pho pronounced as ‘Fuh’. It’s a pretty good ‘first time’ feels as far as culinary experiences go.
Using mostly rice noodles better known to us Singaporeans as ‘Kway Teow’, this bowl of noodles usually comes with beef or chicken broth and is the Vietnamese equivalent of our chicken rice! Here are some recommendations in the Westside of Singapore where you can get your Vietnamese food fix.
1. Pho StreetPho Street -
If you’re around Westgate, drop by this joint where Pho Bo lovers flock to just to get a taste of their beef combination noodles. Their Vietnamese cuisine contains a brilliant balance of aromatics, sweetness, sourness, and elements of fish-sauciness. Definitely one of the must-trys in this list!
Address: Westgate, 3 Gateway Drive, #B2-K6/K7, Singapore 608532 (Pho Street)
2. Pho HoaPho Hoa -
Did you know that Vietnamese Spring Rolls was ranked as one of the top culinary dishes in CNN’s Most Popular Cuisines on the Planet poll?
Vietnamese fresh spring rolls are an acquired taste or if you personally do not have any qualms about eating raw mint leaves. However, if you are a fan of fried spring rolls, Pho Hoa at Holland Village serves up some really top-notched ones. Pairing it with their grilled chicken rice, they have produced a winning dish which is a crowd favourite.
Address: 18 Lorong Mambong , Holland Village, Singapore 277678 (Pho Hoa)
3. The Orange LanternThe Orange Lantern -
The Orange Lantern is a great spot to give Vietnamese food for another Vietnamese specialty – a baguette-style sandwich called Bahn-Mi. With its crusty French baguette as the foundation, this dish is stuffed with lots of fresh vegetables, chicken breast chunks, and a delicious seasoning sauce that leaves you satisfied with every mouthful you take. Our Muslim friends can also check out this Vietnamese joint as it is a Halal  Certified restaurant!

4. Pho Lee HungPho Lee Hung -
If you’re looking to dive straight into your bowl of Pho with no frills or side dishes, just head to Pho Lee Hung, which serves an amazing beef Pho bowl.
Why you may ask? The secret is in their broth – you can tell how good a bowl of Pho is when the broth looks crystal clear and packs punches when you slurp it down. The beef slices compliments the dish really well and melts in your mouth when you chew it.
